Opening of Arab Army Murals at Hussein Public Park

On Tuesday, 2 September, we celebrated the opening of the Arab Army and Jordanian Peacekeeper’s Murals at Al Hussein Public Park; the plaza at the end of the Historical Passage. My journey with this project began in 2019, when the Greater Amman Municipality announced a competition. The technical committee, chaired by Princess Wijdan Al-Hashemi, approved my vision and design for four of the seven murals.

The Historical Passage was delivered in phases. Phase I (2001–2009) comprised murals portraying Jordan’s history from the Stone Age to the Modern Era. Phase II is the plaza at the Passage’s end, which honors the achievements and sacrifices of the Jordanian Arab Army and Jordan’s peacekeeping forces, includes the four murals I contributed. I am proud to have added to this continuum alongside the pioneering artists who created the first phase.

The murals honor the Arab Army, its sacrifices, valor, and achievements. I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported and accompanied me from the very start. For me, the true “opening” happens when visitors pause before the works and engage with them; that is the purpose of public art; to live among people and become part of their everyday memory.

Visitor information: The Historical Passage is open from 10:00am to 6:00pm, except on Tuesdays (Al Hussein Parks’ weekly closure).

More details about the murals’ concept, vision, and message will be published on a dedicated page soon.

“I’m living the tragicomic mask of double identity. I had never felt the citizenship dilemma when I was younger, however as time passes, identity and belonging is somewhat becoming milky from where I stand.”
